A soft weekend at Valö in Göteborg Archipelago. Good friends, wine, food, some paddling, relaxing and just having a good time! And obviously too much time…

Testing a drysuit

October 29, 2011

Trent, Patric and I paddled to Valö today. It was quite hard because we had both the wind and the current against us! I have started to test a drysuit from Ursuit. It feels really good to have a drysuit when it is getting colder in the water.

Trent is heading home and it is getting dark.

Searching for waves

October 9, 2011

Last week has been really long because I have been longing to paddle my new surfski. The forecast was really good for surfski paddling today with winds from north about 10 m/s (37 km/h or 20 knots). Trent Victor and I decided to paddle downwind  from Göteborg. My friend Maria was really nice and agreed to pick us up about 20 km south of Göteborg. When we arrived at the harbour the were hardly any wind at all. We changed our plans and went searching for waves from the bigger boats in the archipelago instead.

Trent Victor in the harbour after the paddle trip. I forgot to bring the camera today. This is taken with my iPhone.

We got some really nice runs from the waves produced of a couple of boats. My top speed was 19,4 km/h (12.1 miles/h).  New record to me! :) It is getting colder in the water. The temperatures is still ok but pretty soon the wet suit I’m using will be to thin. Trent is using a dry suit from Ursuit that looks really nice for surfski paddling. I have ordered a different drysuit from Ursuit that I think is more suitable both for seakayaking and surfski paddling.

New tents from Hilleberg

July 19, 2011

Hilleberg the tentmaker introduces 3 season tents for 2012. Hilleberg has always been uncompromising about their tents to stand all four seasons. Now they introduce two new 3 season models. Both models are really light. Anjan is a tunnel tent and comes in two sizes (for 2 and 3 person), with minimum weights of 1.7 kg and 1.9 kg. The Rogen is a dome model inspired by the Allak and has a minimum weight of 2.0 kg.

They are still very solid. The biggest advantage besides low weight is ventilation. The outer tent stretches nearly, but not completely, to the ground allowing a large volume of air flow in all weathers. This will increase the ventilation. Espcially the Anjan seems great and might be a tent I will consider next year.

Afternoon paddling

June 13, 2011

My friends Patric and Markus joined me today for a short kayak trip in the archipelago. I’m trying to learn how to use my new wingpaddle. It is a used wingpaddle but still a wingpaddle. I’m not sure if I will keep it but why not try something new for a while. At the moment I cant really tell any difference on the speed. I’m more confused when I cant do some common strokes. I will let you know more about my progress or if I will let the paddle be available on Ebay.

Markus joined us for the trip. He is paddling a kayak from Point65.

Patric is paddling a Zedtech Griffin. I joined him last november when he bought the Griffin. He is getting more comfortable in the Griffin now! :)

John Linder, who finished second in the 24 hour paddle race in Malmo, has also bought a Zedtech Griffin. We met Johan on our way back to the harbor.

Tent review

April 27, 2011

Which is the best tent on the market? I do not know but I have finally done my tent review of the Hilleberg Allak. It’s a tent that I’m very pleased with. You will find the complete review under the Misc button.
